Where's That Magic?

I never saw Dan and Keith on Sports Center. Never even heard of it till Keith started doing Countdown, so I don't know of this "magic" that some have spoken of. What I do know is that I have yet to see any magic between them on FNiA.
I didn't watch much of it last week but what I did see was embarrassing. Not to me, mind you, but to all the adult males in this country.
Keith's childish behavior kept me from watching it. The giggling was incredible. And the stupid things that Keith would say was unbearable.

I did listen to Dan and Keith on the radio but that doesn't count. Why, you ask? Because most of their time was spent talking about their personal lives. And Dan chastising Keith for this or that.
Anyway, I decided to watch a little bit more of it last night and something just didn't seem right.
Keith looked out of place. His shtick wasn't funny and it's getting old.
If this is the so called "magic" that everybody's been hooting about then those people lived some very dull lives. I was expecting something really spectacular. Guess I was disappointed again.
Hell, I would say the only magic I saw going on was between Dan, Cris and Bob.

Keith doesn't fit in. He's become too much of a "liberal media" type to pull off sports. People look at him and think Democrat not football.
I'm not saying he doesn't have the right to do it. I'm just saying he's built himself a bad reputation in the "news market" to be selling sports in any fashion. And the only magic he's going to find is in his copies of his Harry Potter books.

I feel the same way, FG. I never heard of either one of 'em while Sports Center was on. Never saw it before. But dammit! I work on Sundays, and I can't watch FNIA. I don't TIVO sporting events, and I certainly wouldn't just to see the sports guys talking during game breaks.

If Keith and Dan went into this thinking they were going to re-create anything like what they had at ESPN, then some adjustments will have to be made. Dan is smart enough to realize that it isn't just the two of them, it's Bob, Cris, Tiki, Jerome and that other guy. I doubt Keith put any more thought to it than "more face time, more money".

It's true he doesn't share well with others, and if he is seen to be competing with them, they'll send him away with even more money, just to make nice while they get rid of him before he can ruin the ratings. He'll try to get them to can his old friend Dan instead, I'll bet. Quietly, so no one will find out what a jerk he is.

If Keith tries to get rid of Dan, even quietly, Dan wouldn't go gently into that good night.
I've learned that Dan is just as outspoken as Keith is but he does it in a way that can cut you to the bone and not sound like a child.
That's a battle Keith wouldn't win.
And their friendship would be over.

I recently watched an interview with Dan and Keith, and I didn’t see the “magic.’ Really, they just seemed like two average guys and not the worlds’ best sports commentators. But, I don’t really know much about sports or commentary.

Anyway, this is a random question, but do you know where I could read the Karma bites blog? It has been mentioned a few times, but I don’t really know what it is.

Thanks!

Two words: they suck

flowergirl said...

Nitta, Keith is so far from average that he's probably part of a study in the school of psychiatry.

As for the karma blog? I don't think it exists anymore. You would have to google it.

Anonymous,
Keith sucks. Dan is pretty good. He's a lot more professional than Keith will ever be.

I have a copy of some of the KarmaBites blog that I found through Google. It may not exist any longer, but her blog was by invitation only.

The woman had a good reason for being pissed off, but she got herself into that mess. And after reading parts of her blog, I think she's a nut job, too.

flowergirl said...

Unfortunately, Keith probably drove her that way.
He's good at pissing a lot of people off.

Here's the link where KarmaBites posted a bunch of crap. She just totally bashes him and the show.

http://www.libertypost.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=161677&Disp=3&Trace=on#C3

Keith is not worth all the effort that this lady expended on him.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here but maybe he made her some promises that he never intended to keep.
This could account for the time she spent on her blog.

I think Keith is notorious for saying whatever he needs to say in order to get whatever he wants and it doesn't matter if he hurts others in the process.

I suspect if Mother Theresa were still alive he would be able to piss her off.

Thanks for the link, Marinara!

Oh and, keep up the good work flower girl.

Do not judge Karma without knowing the facts. I know her and she's not nuts. She was just besotted with Olbermann--and he led her to believe he was with her, too--until he froze her out. I don't blame her for seeking revenge. He was a bastard to her.

The most important thing about her blog was that it inspired other women to post about their experiences with Olbermann. All the same. Lots of flattering and wooing, then meet, have lousy sex, and you're gone. Frozen out of his life. Threatened. Abused.

Karma had great courage to do what she did, particularly given how he threatened her.

He is a rat bastard. Period.

The blog is now locked (it was only by invitation for a short time after it was hacked and Karma was threatened), but there are excerpts to be found with Google.

Thank you Nitta. I will try.

Anonymous,
Thank you for that information.
One thing that I found rather fascinating about that whole situation was the failure on Keith's part to sue her for slander.
This is one of the reasons I believed her story.
If everything she said were lies then he could've nailed her to the wall. But he didn't.
Instead, he conveniently goes and gets a girl young enough and naive enough to move in with him so he could save face.
But that kind of backfired on him. Most good, honest and decent people frown on things like that.

Keith will never be known as a "good person".

I also remember another blog posted by a female fan defending Keith, who was arguing with Karma about her story, flat out called her a liar after asking for certain information and not receiving it. I believe this was someone who may have been given access to Karma's blog under false pretenses, who copied some of it and posted it on her own blog. If that's the hacking you're talking about, Anon, that is not hacking.

As I recall, Karma kept saying she would post some of Keith's e-mails to her, but never did. The female fan accused her of dangling a carrot in front of everyone that she had no intention of letting anyone get a hold of. This was the female fan's basis for calling her a liar.

When I found Karma's blog, I was tempted to pretend like I was one of Keith's "conquests" and ask to join, but I didn't do it. If I thought of it, though, you can be sure others did as well, and may have done what I decided not to do.

Be that as it may, Anon, I fail to see how starting an "oh poor me" blog shows courage. Or how selling her story to Murdoch's Page Six shows any courage, either.

After running her blog for a few weeks (or months, I really don't know how long she maintained it) she became suicidal and checked herself into a psychiatric hospital.

I have to defend the bastard now by saying that Keith did not do that to her, she did that to herself. I think this lady had some problems before she met him, but hooking up with someone like him brought those problems to the surface.

I hope she's OK now, and has put this terrible experience behind her.

Flowergirl--I understand if you don't want to post it, but could you please see that it gets to Marinara? Thanks.

Marinara, your facts are totally, totally wrong. I don't know whether it's deliberate or you just received a lot of misinformation, but let me address what you wrote.

1. "I also remember another blog posted by a female fan defending Keith, who was arguing with Karma about her story, flat out called her a liar after asking for certain information and not receiving it."

Yes, the blog is still there:

http://forthiscomicreliefmuchthanks.blogspot.com

This blog was run by someone who was a heavy poster on one of the more fascistic KO message boards. She doesn't post there anymore (I believe she had a run-in with the management--or lost her KO lust), but she still does post elsewhere, most notably DU. She is very pushy and calls most everyone a liar at some point in any exchange if you disagree with her (and she is a most disagreeable person). It seems to be her first line of defense. And if Karma wouldn't give the emails to the Post (more on that later), why would she give them to this loon?

2. "I believe this was someone who may have been given access to Karma's blog under false pretenses, who copied some of it and posted it on her own blog. If that's the hacking you're talking about, Anon, that is not hacking."

Nope, she never had access to Karma's board--only the access everyone had when it was public. (Karma took it private later). That's NOT the hacking I'm talking about. The board was hacked, rearranged, some things were removed and others were placed, etc. THAT's when Karma took the board private. It was public sporadically after that, but not much.

3. "As I recall, Karma kept saying she would post some of Keith's e-mails to her, but never did. The female fan accused her of dangling a carrot in front of everyone that she had no intention of letting anyone get a hold of. This was the female fan's basis for calling her a liar."

See 1. above re: "liar." Karma agonized over making the emails public. She feared what Olbermann would do to get even, and she didn't want to expose her real identity so she could get back to a normal life after she'd moved to NYC. She chose the latter and now has a great job and is in a happy relationship.

4. "Be that as it may, Anon, I fail to see how starting an 'oh poor me' blog shows courage. Or how selling her story to Murdoch's Page Six shows any courage, either."

If you were Karma Nobody and had high-profile public-figure Olbermann, with the power of MSNBC and his (then) rabid fan base behind him, would you have the guts to expose this guy for what he is--an online predator (and this has been going on for YEARS--since his SportsCenter days) who's lousy in bed, who uses women like tissues then rudely and intimidatingly discards them with nothing but a "don't contact me again. Ever" message? I think not. Not to mention the threats she received from his "fans," which were incredibly vile and included death threats.

5. "After running her blog for a few weeks (or months, I really don't know how long she maintained it) she became suicidal and checked herself into a psychiatric hospital."

Although she was NOT suicidal, she did check herself in for psychiatric treatment a few weeks after she went public on the blog. She'd had an over 18 month relationship with this bastard, who really wooed herand led her on, then dumped her flat in one day. I think a lot of people need some help after such an experience--some more than others.

6. "I have to defend the bastard now by saying that Keith did not do that to her, she did that to herself. I think this lady had some problems before she met him, but hooking up with someone like him brought those problems to the surface."

I can't blame Olbermann for all of her problems either, but he sure set off a chain of events that exacerbated any existing problems that she did have. Not uncommon.

7. "I hope she's OK now, and has put this terrible experience behind her."

See 3. above.

8. "When I found Karma's blog, I was tempted to pretend like I was one of Keith's "conquests" and ask to join, but I didn't do it. If I thought of it, though, you can be sure others did as well, and may have done what I decided not to do."

Why would you have done this? Why would you lie to support a liar like Olbermann? (Who, incidentally, was checking her blog repeatedly DURING HIS SHOW and way into the night when this situation was going hot and heavy. Yes, I saw the IP logs. And he damn near did lose his job.) Who would do that and for what reason? Fun? To get in on the action? Why?

9. From Flowergirl: "One thing that I found rather fascinating about that whole situation was the failure on Keith's part to sue her for slander."

Because he couldn't. It was all true, and she had/has the proof. (Actually, it would be libel. Slander is spoken, libel is written.)

I hope this cleared some things up for you. Please don't go writing untruths on public boards about people you don't know. You never know when it will come back around.

flowergirl said...

Thank you Anonymous for the clarification. Especially, the difference between libel and slander. I wasn't sure which it was.

I don't always agree with Marinara but I welcome her opinions. I like her.
But there will always be those who believe karma's story and those who don't. And those who were on the fence.
I believed her.

I think Keith has learned his lesson...kind of. I don't believe that he's settled himself down in that respect though.
He spends too much time on Kos and that tells me he seeks attention elsewhere rather than at home with his "convenient" girlfriend.
He isn't going to change what he's been doing for most of his life. Why should he? His ego controls the things he does.

Anonymous said...

I like Marinara, too, and think her comments are usually spot-on, but she was misinformed in this case. (There was a LOT of misinformation flying around at that time.)

I hope my post clarified things a bit and laid the blame where is should lie.

(BTW, the ronly eason I can remember the difference between "libel" and "slander" is because "slander is spoken--both begin with an "s." Stupid, but it works for me.)

flowergirl said...

Slander is spoken. I'll have to remember that. It's not stupid to learn things that makes it easiest for you.
I try to teach my employees things like that.

You sound like a good person. Thank you again.
